Wedding ring choices are based on personality, budget and durability. Wearing the ring on a daily basis will cause some wear so you will want to choose something that endures a lifetime. The actual choice of ring will depend on whether the couple prefers matching bands or whether the bride's band must fit her engagement ring.
The ring symbolizes a couple's love and commitment to one another. It seals the marriage ceremony and makes a relationship official. Of course, all of this is traditional and legally the union is not dependent on the exchange of rings.
Many brides are unsure if the rings go over the glove during the exchange. While there is nothing wrong with the method in principle, it is not very functional. The rings will not be big enough to go over the material and thus is not a good idea.
5. How do the rings get to the church and who takes them?
The best man is usually responsible for the rings. In some instances, the bride may ask her maid of honor to hold the groom's ring but traditionally, the best man holds both. When the ring bearer is carrying "dummy" rings on the pillow, the best man will carry the real rings.
6. Who keeps the rings until the wedding day?
This is most likely personal preference. The couple may choose to leave the rings in a safety deposit box or one or the other may keep them in a special place until the day before the wedding when the best man holds them.
7. What is a Ring Bearer?
The ring bearer is usually a young boy between the ages of three and nine who carries the wedding rings attached to a pillow down the church aisle for the ceremony. The tradition of the rings on a pillow is very old and dates back to Egyptian times when gold and silver where presented on pillows.
If you are afraid that the real wedding rings might be lost, the best man will hold the real rings and the child will carry the "dummy" rings. Also, if the child is carrying the real bands, do not give him the pillow until the line is formed and he is ready to enter the church. There is less chance of something happening in this short time span. And be sure, the rings are secured to the pillow. This is normally the best man's responsibility.
8. What is the procedure if there is no ring bearer?
The best man will carry the rings in his tuxedo pocket.
9. Can the rings be fused together before the wedding?
Sometimes the rings are intertwined and to keep them from grinding on one another and deteriorating, the set may be fused together as one. It is not necessary to wait until after the wedding to have this done. If it is done before, the groom will slip the whole set on the bride's finger during the ring exchange.
10.Does everyone wear his or her wedding rings after the wedding?
In the past, many men did not wear their wedding bands because it was too dangerous to wear particularly in jobs that handled equipment and machinery. Nowadays, it may be custom for both the bride and groom to leave their wedding rings at home if jewelry is not permitted on the job. Also, if a woman's set is too elaborate, she may wear it only for special occasions. Social mores are such that personal preference and common sense reigns.
