Alot has changed since I was first married many moons ago, back then a blood test was required and we both had to attend a state run health class on VD, now they have done away with those requirements and made things easier.

Below is a list of what is needed and required to obtain a Marriage License in the State of Michigan
1. Where to apply? - You will apply at the County Clerks office for the county you plan on getting married in or the county for which you reside. See below for a local listing.
2. What is the cost of a marriage license? - The marriage license fee is $20.00 for in-state residents and $30.00 for out-of-state residents.
3. What are the residency requirments for Michigan? - There are no residency requirements for the State of Michigan, non-residents will pay a higher fee but its not that much higher. The license is valid for the entire state of Michigan
4. Is there a waiting period? - Yes there is a mandatory 3 day wait from the day you apply for the license and the day it is issued, The day you apply is not counted. Best thing to do is when you apply, asl them what day it can be picked up.
5. What is the minimum age a man or woman can get married? You must be 18 years old or older to marry without parental consent. A birth certificate may be necessary to show proof of age. If you are under 16 you cannot marry without a court order. Also if you are under 18 a certified copy of your birth certificate is required along with the signed consent form.
6. Is a blood test or physical exam required? Years ago it was required but now there is no blood test or physical exam required.
7. How long is the Marriage License good for? - The wedding license is only good for 33 days from the date it is issued.
8. What if one or both partners have been divorced or have had a spouse die? - If previously married, the date of divorce or date of spouse's death must be provided.
9. Are proxy marriages legal? - No, a proxy marriage is not allowed.
10. Can I marry my cousin? - No, cousin marriages are not allowed.
11. Are common law marriages legal in Michigan? - No, Michigan does not recognize common law marriages.
