After the wedding

After-the-Wedding Tasks and Necessities
Much planning, stress and excitement goes into the actual wedding day. Once the wedding day is over and the couple is safely on their honeymoon or wedding night, it seems like everything is done and the planning has come to a close. In reality, however, the planning does not stop at the conclusion of the wedding day or honeymoon departure. Indeed, many things are still left unfinished after the wedding.
Some of the more important things that need to be completed after the wedding are:
Any rented supplies must be returned. There are many items that you may have rented for your wedding.
You should know whether you are required to return them or the rental store is picking them up.
Also, be sure to return them on time to avoid hefty service charges and late fees.
It would be wise to make a list of all items as you rent them so you do not forget to return anything after the wedding.
If you will be away on your honeymoon, assign different people the tasks of returning the items.
Some of the more common wedding items that people rent are:
tuxedos
wedding gown accessories - veils, tiaras, hair pieces
chairs, tables
awnings, tents, gazebos
cookware, warming trays, coffee urns
plates, glassware, silverware
linens - table cloths, table runners, napkins, chair covers
wedding cake accessories - topper, pillars, columns, serving utensils
decorations - archway, money box, artificial flowers, aisle runners,
Any payments that are due vendors, suppliers or individuals should be addressed in a timely manner as per the contracts.
Thank You Cards should be sent within three to four weeks of the wedding. Thank you notes are an absolute must. It does not matter whether you thanked people in person, whether you gave them a wedding favor at the reception or whether you gave them a thank you note for the shower gift. All wedding gifts must be acknowledged in writing.
The groom should also thank the bride's family for the wedding and the reception if her family paid for the wedding.
Likewise, the bride should thank the groom's family for any special tasks fulfilled.
When sending thank you notes, some of things to say on the note are:
Dear person's name or persons' names
state the specific gift
how you might use it or why you liked it
how nice it was to see the people
sign the bride's and groom's names
Women who are changing their legal name should do so as soon as possible. A copy of the marriage certificate will be required in order to prove that you have been legally married when changing official documents. In some instances, a notarized or certified copy may be requested.

Some of the documents that may require updating are:
driver's license
vehicle ownership and insurance
passport
heath cards
social security
employee information at place of employment
credit cards
bank accounts, investments
Change of address should be completed for couples moving in together or changing residence entirely.
While it is not mandatory to complete a change of address form at the post office, it is advisable in order to redirect all mail. There is less chance of important notices and documents being lost if the postal service redirects your mail to your new home.
Be sure to officially change your address on all of the important documents as listed above in Item 4.
Change the address and phone number if applicable with all service companies such as telephone, internet, cable, water, gas and electricity.
Talk to one another about life insurance policies, wills, bank accounts, power of attorney, legal guardianship and any other legal issues that require updating.
Once a couple marries, the individual holding investments and insurance policies will need to decide whether the beneficiary should be changed on the policies. If so, this should be done rather quickly to avoid any unforeseen problems
Presumably the couple will have spoken of the issue of joint bank accounts and whether they want to keep their own accounts or use joint accounts. If the couple chooses to go the way of joint accounts, contact the bank and other investment houses to change the status on the documents.
Credit cards may stay in the individual name or the couple may choose to request a card for the new spouse.
Decide whether the new spouse will be the guardian or power of attorney for both financial care and heath care once married and complete the necessary paperwork.
While the thought of updating all your information may be daunting, try to finish everything in steps. For example, the next time you go to the bank to make a transaction, also ask for the necessary forms to update your account. When you are in the neighborhood of a particular place, go in and change your address.
Lastly, there are now websites that offer kits to make the task easier and a little more organized. Check first with the state's official site and also your city's site to see if they can help with the task.
