The big Uniroyal Tire on I94 near Detroit Michigan is located in Allen Park, Michigan. It is the first thing most visitors coming to detroit see when leaving Detroit Metro Airport, Located on I-94 about 1/2 way between the airport and the city of detroit this landmark has become one of detroit's icons, it can even be seen in the movie Renaissance Man with Danny DeVito, (at the very beginning - just before it starts).

This tire started out as a ferris wheel at the 1964 World's Fair in New York, it was the key attraction giving rides to more than 2 million people, including the Shaw of Iran and Jacqueline Kennedy.

  • The tire stands 86 feet tall
  • Weight 12 Tons
  • Was just remodeled (2003) adding a new hub cap and removing a giant nail
  • 10/21/03 The giant nail removed from the tire was sold on Ebay auctions for $3,000, the nail recieved 11 bids before it was purchased with a Buy it now, the starting bid was $500, The nail stands 11 feet high and weighs about 250lbs, the base was 27inches wide and the head of the nail was 1 foot thick and 5 feet wide and is made of painted steel. The nail was sold by the City of Allen Park for funds for their Historical Society.
